One of the best things you can do for the future is to avoid consuming more than you need. And as a company, it is important not to overproduce products and to carefully consider the production process at every stage. We aim to be a counterforce to the throwaway culture that exists in society. Instead, we want to encourage renewal through the three R’s. Reuse, repurpose and recycle.
Reuse
The best garments are those that can be used again and again, for many years. By taking care of your garments, you extend their lifespan. Our best tip for taking care of your garments is to avoid washing them too frequently. If your garments don’t have any stains that need to be removed, simply airing them out by hanging them can be sufficient. However, sometimes a wash is necessary, and in those cases, we recommend using a wool detergent with lanolin oil.
When a garment has worn out to the point of developing holes, it can be patched or repaired. In our webshop, you will find items such as cuffs, zippers, and fabric that you can use to repair your garments.
REPURPOSE
Sometimes, when there is leftover yarn from discontinued colours, we knit up the yarn and make socks in a temporary colour. For example, to support Storsjöcupen, a local football tournament for children and youth. Moreover, Björn has used these yarns in the design of his rock-inspired socks to support the Swedish Down Syndrome Association.
Currently, we do not have the capability to reuse our fabrics, but several of our customers do. We sell fabric remnants, such as those with a different colour or from discontinued models, as fabric scraps. Some examples of what customers have made are blankets, hats, jackets, and sleeping bags. Even our discontinued zippers are sold in our factory stores.
RECYCLE
Since 2015, we have been recycling waste materials from our production.
Even though we have optimised our production to minimise waste, there are still small scraps of material left over when we punch or cut the fabrics. These scraps are collected, torn apart, and compressed into a felt-like material, which we use to manufacture items such as warming insoles and seat cushions.
Usually, the felt material takes on a grey colour, but since we produce garments in various colours, the colour of the felt material can vary. Therefore, we can never guarantee the colour of the products we manufacture using our felt material. We see it as a charming detail that comes with the fact that the material is recycled.
Our felt material is also available for purchase as large sheets both in our store and in our online shop. Many of our customers purchase felt sheets and create their own products from them. Smart, right?
