CAN WE EXTEND THE LIFE OF WOOL FIBERS?
In accordance with circular principles and a lifecycle perspective, the goal is for the fibers used to make garments to be recycled infinitely. This is a significant challenge that the entire textile industry is facing. For us, it’s important to contribute to the industry’s development and drive innovation. Therefore, in 2021, Woolpower initiated a collaboration with RISE and Filippa K to investigate the possibility of chemically recycling wool.
CHEMICALLY RECYCLED WOOL
Wool material that is mechanically recycled a sufficient number of times eventually results in fibers so short that they can no longer be used to create products. The vision of the project is to break down the wool fiber into its components and then spin the fiber into a new filament fiber, similar to viscose.
If successful, it could contribute to closing the loop for the “closed-loop recycling” of wool.
